Tasmanian bowls club up for $1 million damages bill after losing appeal

 A Tasmanian bowls club has lost its appeal against a $1 million payout awarded to a bowler who was seriously burned while barbecuing sausages at the club in 2015.  Champion bowler Kraig Dann sued the Port Sorell Bowls Club for negligence after hot fat poured over his hand while he worked on the barbecue as a volunteer on a "barefoot bowls" night. Tasmania's Supreme Court heard a ceramic mug was being used to collect the fat underneath the plate of the "unsophisticated four-burner barbecue", and when Mr Dann began cooking the mug overflowed and caught fire. Winterfold Primary School to reopen after teacher among 17 new local COVID-19 cases

 A West Australian primary school will reopen tomorrow after a teacher was among 17 new local cases of COVID-19 reported in the state overnight.  Winterfold Primary School in Perth's south was closed on Wednesday, sending the majority of its staff into isolation, just two days after children returned to the classroom. Tonga's COVID cases rise to five, outbreak not linked to aid delivered by HMAS Adelaide

 A top Defence Force officer has said the Australian navy vessel HMAS Adelaide was not responsible for the emerging COVID-19 outbreak that has sent Tonga into lockdown. Australia has also promised to help the Pacific nation identify the source of the outbreak by testing samples from the two dock workers who tested positive on Tuesday.  The number of COVID cases grew from two to five today after three family members of one of those workers also tested positive.  Tongan authorities feared an influx of international planes and ships delivering water, shelter and food supplies in the wake of the devastating volcanic eruption and tsunami last month, could bring COVID-19 to the nation.
