Prime Minister Scott Morrison stands by Katherine Deves after Liberal candidate says she still believes trans youth are 'mutilated'

 Prime Minister Scott Morrison has defended his hand-picked candidate for Warringah after she reasserted that transgender people were "mutilated" by medically transitioning. Mr Morrison again refused to criticise Katherine Deves, saying the issue she was raising was "concerning" and "troubling". "What we're talking about here is gender reversal surgery for young adolescents... we can't pretend this type of surgery is a minor procedure," Mr Morrison said. But rights groups told the ABC Mr Morrison's comments were "categorically incorrect" — transgender Australians are generally not eligible for surgery to change their physical sex characteristics until they turn 18 years old.  Sydney Kings guard Dejan Vasiljevic says he received death threats in the wake of his match-winning shot against the Tasmania JackJumpers in Hobart on Sunday. The Kings have a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five NBL grand final series after Vasiljevic hit a long-range three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to seal a 90-86 victory in game two. There was an ugly post-script to the match when some fans turned to social media to abuse Vasiljevic, with the 25-year-old even receiving death threats.
